Diffuse epithelial mesothelioma with ossification
Malignant mesothelioma with ectopic calcifications commonly occurs in patients with a history of asbestos exposure. The presence of osteogenesis is less frequent and occurs mostly in the mixed histlogic subtype.
The biologic events leading to osteogenesis can be explained considering the mesothelial cell as capable of giving rise to both epithelial and connective tissue elements.
